“A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, and some fantasy. When you always make your meaning perfectly plain, you end up boring people.” – Edgar Degas.

Katya Gridneva, a Ukrainian expressionist figurative painter, is a member of ICAS gallery’s list of artists. Her works are thought-provoking compositions that showcase her mastery of various mediums, including oils, pastels, charcoal, pencil sketches, and mixed media.

Katya’s works capture the mood and light that flow across her figurative pieces. Her in-depth knowledge of the human figure’s anatomical structure is evident in her paintings, attributed to her time spent perfecting her drawing skills at the World-renowned Academy of Fine Arts St. Petersburg.

Katya’s passion for dance is also reflected in her paintings, which depict dancers with grace and elegance, capturing the love and movement of the art form. She began taking drawing classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg in 1991 and completed the entire art course in 1999. In the same year, she moved to England, where she currently lives and works from her studio.

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. “– Edgar Degas.
