A Royal Diamond Anniversary Framing in Conservation Standard
At ICAS Vilas Art Gallery, every framing project starts with one principle — preserving your memories to the highest standard. This week, we framed a special piece for Fay Fraser: a Diamond Wedding Anniversary message from King Charles III and The Queen.
To safeguard and beautifully present this royal keepsake, our team carefully selected museum-quality, conservation-approved materials throughout the entire design.
⭐ Our Conservation Framing Approach
1. Thoughtful Spacing & Mount Design
We chose a double-window conservation mount, crafted to create visual harmony between the two elements:

- the personal message written inside the card
Precise spacing was measured and balanced to ensure both windows complement each other without crowding. This careful proportioning allows the eye to move naturally between the two focal points.
2. Elegant Gold Gilt Detail & Ribbon Integration
To enrich the design, we added a gold gilt slip around each window, providing a refined frame within a frame effect.

Below the portrait window, we incorporated the original recycled-gold ribbon from the card, positioning it to link the image and message symbolically. This creates a visual continuation between the two windows, unifying the overall presentation.
3. Depth & Structure with Conservation Fillet
A 10mm ivory fillet, perfectly matched to the mount tones, was used to add depth to the design. This not only protects the card by keeping it away from the glazing, but also enhances the piece’s dimensional feel — creating a subtle boxed effect.

4. The Final Touch — Italian Brushed Gold Frame
To complete the framing, we selected an Italian brushed gold profile with warm undertones and delicate black accents. This classical moulding acts as the “icing on the cake”, bringing the entire composition together with elegance worthy of the occasion.
