Preserve
Every artwork, photograph, print or treasured keepsake has a story. Our priority is to help preserve that story.
Using appropriate conservation materials and professional framing techniques, we can help minimise the effects of ageing, light, humidity, dust and other environmental factors. For valuable or sentimental pieces, our framing specialists can recommend conservation-grade mounts, backing boards, and glazing designed to help maintain the artwork’s condition and integrity.
Preservation is particularly important when framing original artwork, limited editions, photographs, historic documents, family memorabilia and other irreplaceable items. The right materials and construction techniques can make a significant difference to how an item ages over time.

Protect

Protection is at the heart of every quality frame. The wrong framing materials can potentially damage artwork over time, while the right combination of mount, backing, glazing and frame construction provides a protective environment between the artwork and the outside world.
At ICAS, we consider factors such as the type and condition of the artwork, its location, exposure to natural light and how it will be displayed. Where appropriate, we can recommend specialist glazing and conservation materials to provide additional protection from harmful UV light, dust and other environmental influences.

Present
Finally, there is the way your artwork is presented. A frame should complement the artwork rather than compete with it. The right combination of frame, mount, colour, proportions and glazing can transform how a piece looks and feels within a room.

Stretching & mounting of tapestries, cross-stitch, canvas paintings & papyrus framing;

CANVAS STRETCHING We can stretch canvases to any size needed. We use standard stretcher bars or custom-made oversized stretcher bars. 

Oversized bespoke framing – We can handle extra-large artwork framing in October 2021 – THE LOST GUARDIAN ANGEL. A significant brass rubbing of a Knight with his armour (size 66cm x 212.5cm). As a wedding and retirement gift, the couple visits the gallery for suggestions and ideas on how to display and frame their lovely memories. The story behind this large framing project was the memories of an anniversary holiday. Both completed an art project of brass rubbing a graceful knight in armour in a prayer position. For many years, the forgotten brass rubbing on black cartridge paper rolled up remained stored in a drawer.
Firstly, the brass rubbing on black cartridge art paper was unrolled and mounted onto a conservation acid-free backing board. Due to the size and weight restrictions, we suggested replacing the glass with anti-scratch acrylic plexiglass. The next problem we had to address was the limited number of colours available for the mounting service. We therefore used a natural-light wood flat profile, 4cm wide, that was hand-painted to provide a dark, holly green colour, together with a gold inner slip to match the tone of the antique gold profile. Another finished project completed to the highest standard to be loved & cherished for many years, to share their memories with their family & friends.
We hope to share many more lovingly handcrafted projects from our workshop here in Letchworth Garden City.

Another example of our oversized framing service is four large original modern Nigerian art paintings on canvas sizes 65″ x 40″ (1115mm x 1655mm). The order required custom-made deep stretcher bars and our stretching canvas service, with a floating distressed black profile frame. Our customer was satisfied that the order was completed within three weeks of service, and we finally arranged delivery to the client’s home.

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. I recently had an Egyptian papyrus art piece framed here, and the end result exceeded all expectations. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were exceptional, and the frame perfectly complemented the artwork.
