Born in 1950 Pune, Maharashtra, India, Dattatraya one of the leading artists from India, a modernist painter, who has won all the major awards, in the field of drawing, portrait, landscape, calligraphy, sculpture and abstract art. Recently collected his highest award in Art at a ceremony in Mumbai.
Dattatraya `s contemporary collection are paintings where he has used a modest selection of colour palette that is quite monocolour, but effective to capture the mood and atmosphere for his subjects. His technique of using mix medium of watercolours and gouache blends well, which creates the distinct balance between the hard lines and the soft tones from his wash technique. We get a reminder of the work by old masters of the past namely Kandinsky, Mondrian and Klee.
His series of oil painting on canvas, cover childhood memories of innocence,
almost like the world of fairy tales. At the other extreme, he captures the atmosphere
of walking up the higlands of Darjeeling tea plantation. One could experience
the early morning light that breaks through, as the sun rises.
Dattatraya`s collectors include corporate clients of major companies throughout
India, as well as private collectors. His art is featured at the famous National
gallery of Modern art & Lalit Kala academy - New Delhi, India, and the Domenico
Tomeucci - Venice, Italy.
