Biography

Anne is one of the significant and successful Modern artists in Britain today. Anne `s works in the gallery includes some of the finest collection of British landscapes in pastel. She has a unique technique and style that echoes through her paintings, the feeling of tranquillity, and also a sense of being as one with her landscapes. The English landscapes has been a source of inspiration for many of Anne`s work, particularly the Lake District where Anne spent much of her childhood. Her inspiration comes from many things including dreams, mysticism, nature, death, mythology and folklore. She is also well known for her depiction of many of the ancient British megalithic sites, among them Avebury, Stonehenge, Wayland`s Smithy and Castlerigg Stone Circle.

Anne works mainly from her studio in Lancashire. She has been drawing and painting since early childhood and began her career as a professional artist in 1993 when Anne presented her first exhibition "Visions and Views". She has had many successful exhibitions since, culminating with the launch of her book " Enchanted World " published in autumn 2000 currently in it's third print. In March 2007 a new book with an update on her work is being launch published by AAPPL, titled " Gothic Fantasies - The paintings of Ann Sudworth ".

She is best known for her "Earth Light Trees" paintings on
an going series of pictures which provides a central theme in her works. These dark and atmospheric pieces show vision of the artist`s world in which trees, forrests and woodlands all glow with their own Earth Light and life forces, symbolizing the power and magic which the earth holds. She says of her work " I Like to explore the idea that the Earth has a darker, lesser known side, perhaps one of which our ancestors were more aware."

Reviews and comments: John Grant who said of her work " Her pictures have a powerful affect: they pulse with meaning, with the sense that there are many more levels of reality than the superficial one we normally accept as being all there is. One could think of the world of Anne Sudworth as the world you can only ever see out of the corner of your eye, and which disappears when you turn to look at it face on
