Contemporary Art exhibition
17 February
- 4 March

original oil on canvas " Miyako Yoshida"
Artist: Charles Willmott
(British)
size: 126 x 100cm
This multiple exhibition features the works of a group of very distinguished artists,
who have worked with the theme of dance or dance related subjects.
They include
Internationally renowned artists, sculptor
and potter :
Charles
Willmott modern Degas - his work could be construed as a marriage between
drawing and painting; the almost waxy surface of canvas yields a translucent depth,
whilst the realism of detail lies just beneath the surface and is disguised in
washy planes of expressionist colour.
His collection will include work from
ballet - ( Miyako Yoshida & Kevin O` Hare in rehearsal, to Far from the Madding
Crowd Birmingham Royal Ballet`s production, choreographed by David Bintley. The
principal dancers are Kevin O` Hare and Monica Zamora. The body of work "
Liaison" captures BRB principal dancer Catherine Batcheller in rehearsal
at BRB studio in Birmingham and later with her husband, BRB lead principal dancer
Joseph Cipolla.)
Flamenco dance ( Joaquin Cortes- Gipsy Passion ).During
Cortes`s visit to the Royal Albert Hall, Charles was invited to prepare a body
of work which has been entitled Gipsy Passion as a mark of repect to the performances.
Due to the limited availability of time ( mainly rehearsal and photo calls) the
collection completed were graphite studies and oil on board panels.
Indian
classical dance ( Chitraleka & Co). Chitraleka Bolar is one of the country`s
leading performer and teacher of the Indian Classical dance form - Bharathannatyam.
Chitraleka has toured extensively in Britain and abroad.
British bronze sculptor
and painter
John Mills collection will include bronze pieces from his series
"Three Kings", together with drawing and studies from the "Harlequin
& Colombine".
"Three Kings" - The subject for this sculpture
is a ballet by Alvin Ailey called Les Trois Rois. It features a pas
de deux by two dancers, dancing to the music if Duke Ellington who makes
the third King referred to
in the title. There are two larger versions of
this pieces, one at the Rank Xerox Headquarters building at
Marlow in Buckinghamshire,
which is 7ft high. The second is a life size sculpture in the Reilly collection,
Aix eu Provence, France ( this is an edition of six, at present we have five
remaining).
" Harlequin and Colombine " - This lovely work resulted
from the commission to make sculpture for the P&O cruise ship 'ORIANA'. These
drawings are studies for the sculptures made for that site.
" The Dancing
Comedian " - this body of work was done as a pastel drawing as aid to the
development to
his final pieces in sculpture form.
