LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY CENTENARY MEDAL ******
1903 - 2003

The idea for the medals was brought together in February 2002 by Sunil Vilas of ICAS - Vilas Fine Art (Governor of the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and Rotarian) and the distinguished British sculptor and national award - winning coin and medal designer John W. Mills ARCA, PPRBS, FRSA.

COLLECTORS EDITION
" John Mills has been a gallery artist here in Letchworth since 2001 and it was appropriate that I call upon his services to work on the design for the Centenary medal. The partnership worked well. John produced two designs, which are symbolic of our `Garden City', today. They are exciting works of art, the Garden City view being a good representative of Art Deco style and the Ebenezer view a miniature portrait captured in relief, his homage collection of Sir Ebenezer Howard. The limited edition comprises of 78 medals in 9 carat gold, 425 in sterling silver and 1500 in tone bronze - all 63mm in diameter. An open edition in nickel brass 38mm provides a more affordable alternative options.

LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY ROTARY CLUB
The project was sponsored by Letchworth Garden City Rotary Club and each medal purchased will help support local and international charities. So far we have raised £1,838.80.

ROYAL MINT
The Royal Mint also welcomed the opportunity to support this project. It is the first John Mills medal project that Royal Mint has supported since the Eddystone Lighthouse in 1998.

EBENEZER HOWARD AWARD
In July 2003 both St. Francis and St. Christopher school, where selected by John W.Mills to make a presentation medals to be awarded to the most successful student in 2003, in the category of arts, music sports and academic achievements.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to make this dream for a 'Centenary medal', a reality and to welcome your continued support to make it a success."
